NRHA Derby Purse Up $34,000

Oklahoma City, OK – June 25, 2008 – With three day of entries left to include, the 2008 NRHA Derby has already exceeded last year’s purse by $34,000 and entries have increased 27%. The second section of the $30,000 added Non Pro Derby ended Tuesday afternoon with a leader board change. Jessicah Keller, from Fayetteville, TN, and Helluva Chex scored a 218.5 moving Monday’s leader, Samantha Griffin and Kachina Oak Olena to second place with a 218. Griffin is from De Winton, Alberta.
Lindy Longfellow and SLJ Sweet N Juicy (Smart Like Juice x Jacks My Sugar Daddy) scored a 217.5 to tie for first place in the $15,000 add Intermediate Non Pro and $7,500 added Limited Non Pro divisions. Longfellow, from Handford, CA owns the five-year-old mare. George Lawrence, of Fort Worth, TX, and This Chicsdundreamin held the top score on Monday with a 217.5 to tie for first at the end of the first section. In addition, Longfellow took the top score in the Prime Time Non Pro with an impressive 220.5 aboard SLJ Sweet N Juicy.
In the $2,000 added Intermediate Open, Tove Lewenhaudt-Schmidt and Dream Olena Chic scored a 216 to be the highest score. Lewenhaudt-Schmidt is from Pauls Valley, OK. Dream Olena Chic is by Magnum Chic Dream and out of Bob Acre Baderlena.
Roy Van Der Hoeven rode Ruf N Refined (Lil Ruf Peppy x Queen O Thumb) to a 216 in the $500 added Limited Open. Van Der Hoeven, who outscored second-place finisher Nathan Morton and The Electrician by two points, hails from The Netherlands. Their 216 was good enough to also win the $500 added Rookie Professional.
Katie Jo Jones, from Burlington, NC, and the Gallo Del Cielo gelding High Roller Rooster to a winning score of 213 in the Rookie class. The pair won the class by a whopping 6 points. Kristy Morgan and Hesa Friendly placed second in the class with a 207.
