On Tuesday 21 July, Mc Jac Flash died in his paddock at the Roberta’s Stables in Villafalletto, Italy. “I saw him in his paddock at 1 pm and half an hour later, following a heart attack, he passed away”, says owner Claudio Risso. “It’s hard to accept, but if he had to go, that was the best way”.
Without a doubt MC Jac Flash to date is Europe's and the Italian Reining Horse Association’s leading sire. With offspring having won well over Euro 500.000,00 the great sire has produced multiple European Futurity, Derby and Maturity Champions as well as winners of a great number of NRHA approved Bronze Trophy competitions.
By Hollywood Jac 86 and out of Sport’s Zola 73, MC Jac Flash was born in the US and was an NRHA Futurity Limited Open finalist in 1990. The following year, Claudio Risso, today one of Europe’s most successful breeders and non professional riders, was impressed by ‘the look in the eye’ and the ‘great presence’ of the chestnut stallion which he had seen at Scott McCutcheon’s training facility in Gainesville, Tx. Shortly following his visit, Claudio had bought the horse and had had him shipped to Italy where he was shown successfully until 1994 both in Open and Non Pro competition. “He’s always been great to have around, whether he was in the barn, at a horse show or out trail riding with my daughter on his back”, claims Risso, “he couldn’t have but turned out to be a great producer!”.
The first results started coming in for the great sire started when his first three-year-olds started showing in the ‘debut’ show, the Italian Futurity. In 1996, Rs Pretty Jac Doc and Rs Little Jac Flash Leo came back home with two titles to their names: the Italian Reining Horse Association Futurity Non Pro Championship and the Limited Open Futurity Championship respectively. From the following year until today, at least one major European event was won by either a son or a daughter of the athletic sire and when the first edition of the NRHA European Affiliate Finals was held, the Non Pro Championship was clenched by Rs Jac Flash Leo (by Mc Jac Flash) with Risso, in the saddle.
Mc Jac Flash stood at Roberta’s stable and was the senior sire in a stallion line up that includes Spat Olena (Smart Chic Olena x Steps Little Remedy), Rs Vobinda (Mc Jac Flash x Miss Kristy Kitty) and Rs Great Jac Feona (Mc Jac Flash x Feona Pine – by Great Pine). “This great stallion will be highly missed by all of us as he was truly one of the family”, said Claudio. “A few days ago, a national tv program came over to do a coverage on my facility. I walked into Mc Jac Flash’s paddock and after a while I got on him with no saddle nor bridle. Everything I asked him to do, he did. He was simply special!”.
Mc Jac Flash will be truly missed by all reining fans across the globe. His legacy continues through his offspring and through the ‘magic of science’ which today allows us to continue to produce foals by this great Sire through the cooled semen collected.
