Norway Open 2009 - the results

Quelle: Quarter Horse Today - vom 08.06.2009

The Norway Open show 2009 was as usual a relaxed and fun show.

This year the show arranged by the Norwegian Quarter Horse Association had a few less entries than previous years.

Current economic situation in the world could be one reason and less added money whish attracted less Swedish riders could be another.

The fact that the Norwegian riders have 3 shows the same month could be a third reason for less entries.

Norway Open provided a number of chances to become Norwegian Champion, an option open to any NQHA member riding a quarter horse in the AQHA classes.

Cup classes for Trail, Pleasure and Reining and Youth´s, NRHA classes as well as a full show for Paint Horses, Quarter Horses and all levels of classes open to allbreeds.

A few names need to be mentioned, Lasse Stensboel, Lars Ostby-Deglum, Roland, Svensson and the whole family Haldammen, these people are the backbone of this show and are doing a tremendous job to provide a great show for the riders. Having a great weekend did Marian Stensboel on her Cowladys Shadow, who is back from being a broodmare for a number of years after a successful show carrier. So last year she had her comeback and she seems to enjoy to be back in the show pen because she deliver in every class she enters.

Marian and “peanut” which is Cowlady Shadows barn name won the Trail cup, and came third in the Pleasure cup and earned a silver medal in Hunter Under saddle.

The Snäll family had as always a good weekend with 3;d place for Catharina and here “Rasmus” ie. Hi Tech Razzmatazz in the trail cup and 2;nd place for Roger and “Foppa” Cookies Candy King in the reining Cup.

Back in the show saddle we saw Josefine (Fifi) Blomqvist on a new horse and back in here old disciplines, the all around ones after completion in reining for a number of years on the Blomqvist familys stallion Jacs Deduction. Her new horse which is their own breeding Pleasureucanmeasure and a stallion after Hotrodding Invitation and Lopin Chocolate Style, did get a Reserve and a grand Champion as well as 1;st place in the Pleasure Cup and a 2;nd in the trail cup together with a Gold medal in WP and Silver in Trail.

Norwegian Cecilie Haldammen and her Wheeling Eldorado did get the crowd going with her reining runs, and the couple had a really good weekend with 1;st place in the NRHA Intermediate class followed by the same in Non Pro and Limited Open. Fighting with her about the top placing where Anders Josefsson that had brought Cut From A Diamond owned by Sven Olof Johansson to Norway together with Norwegian owned Lilly Sand Bar. Anders won the Open class on Cut From A Diamond and came second with Lilly Sand Bar owned by Nina Robsud Hermansen. And he also won the Reining Cup on Cut >From A Diamond. Rick Lemay where on site coaching and giving clinics to his Norwegian customers the whole weekend, where Cecilia and Tone Lindberg on Super Jac Catalyst is a couple of them, Tone who just started showing reining last year won the Limited Non Pro.

Never the less this show where and always has been a show where people enjoy the atmosphere on site, beautiful surroundings and the big party Saturday night.

Bonnie Jo Clay from USA and James Gerdes Hansen from Denmark did judge this year’s show with 65 horses and 350 starts.

2008 there where around 85 horses and 470 starts, the biggest difference was in the open division where there where much less entries this year than the previous ones but promising enough the youth division does almost have the same numbers as last year.

The show organization can happily announce that changes will be made to make the Norway Open show even better next year and the planning has already started, watch out for the dates and news for next year on www.nqha.net
